Andover Newton Seminary at Yale Divinity School will host a Juneteenth Worship Service at the Historic Dixwell Avenue Congregational Church, UCC, on Wednesday, June 19th at 10:30 am.
The service will include music by Nedelka Prescod, words from special guests, and a sermon from Clifton Granby, Associate Professor of Ethics, Philosophy, and Africana Studies at Yale Divinity School and Andover Newton Affiliated Faculty member.
This is an in-person/hybrid event that will also be streamed using Facebook Live on Andover Newton’s Facebook page. The event is open to the public. A reception will follow.

Clifton Granby is a scholar of African American religious, political, and philosophical thought. His research and teaching reflect an interdisciplinary approach to the study of race and religion, ethics, social epistemology, and theories of freedom, power, and ignorance. He has been especially influenced by the works of W.E.B. Du Bois, James Baldwin, and Howard Thurman. Professor Granby is completing two books: Truth in Love: The Ethics of Social Criticism and Racial Injustice and The Politics of Listening. He earned an M.A. and Ph.D. from Princeton University in religion, ethics, and politics, an M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Memphis in philosophy, and a B.A. from Wake Forest University in politics.
