Morenike Oyebode’s Senior Sermon

April 3, 2025
Today, we are proud to spotlight Morenike Oyebode’s senior sermon entitled, “Celebrate Good Times.” Morenike is a third-year MDiv student at Yale Divinity School, and she will be the first at YDS to graduate with diplomas from both Andover Newton Seminary and Berkeley Divinity School!

Morenike is originally from New York and is a former elementary school teacher. She earned both a B.S. in Business Administration and an MBA from Hampton University. Her academic interests include international law, Black religion, public policy, and public theology.

On Morenike’s sermon, Founding Dean, Sarah Drummond, shared that “I’ve long thought it sexist when a community assumes that women, not men, plan parties. In her stirring sermon, Morenike pointed out how women have throughout history exercised and consolidated power by choreographing communal celebrations. She made me think in a new way about how (particularly women) leaders intensify and spread joy as part of their task of building community.”
