Emmaus Encounters: Building Community on the Road - Final check-in from the journey (but not the final word!)

August 24, 2022

As the Emmaus Encounter: Building Community on the Road pilot/planning group took its final steps on Oahu, we were hosted by Rosemary Everhart, recently retired archivist at Central Union Church.

This congregation is the representation of the impact educating clergy here at Andover Newton Seminary at Yale Divinity School can have in far-away places. Six of 18 previous ministers graduated from one or the other school. Rosemary kindly labeled their portraits with white stickers for ANS, and blue stickers for YDS, so our group could receive the visual impact of this large proportion. We came away hoping to see purple stickers sometime in the near future.

From the church’s website:

“Central Union Church is the largest of the United Church of Christ churches in the State of Hawaii. Central Union has assisted in the forming and fostering of other UCC churches and organizations, and its outreach includes a wide range of community services.”
