Event description:

Again this year, Andover Newton is collecting hats, gloves, and other winter items for newly resettled refugees. Integrated Refugee and Immigrant Services (IRIS), a mission partner of Andover Newton, welcomes refugees to the New Haven area and helps with housing, employment, education, and medical services.

On Tuesday, November 19, the 11:30 worship service in Marquand will center on refugees and the welcoming work of IRIS. At that time, donated winter items collected will be blessed, and folks will have the opportunity to write notes of warm welcome to be attached to the winter items. Participants in the worship service will include Ashley Makar, IRIS Outreach Coordinator, Laurel McCormack (MDiv ‘22), IRIS Acculturation Coordinator, and members of the IRIS Youth Leadership Program.

If you would like to help a refugee family, please drop off new or gently used winter coats, new or like-new gloves, winter boots, hats and scarves at the Andover Newton office by November 18. Join us at the worship service on November 19 to hear music and reflections by refugees resettled by IRIS, and to offer a note of warm welcome.
