“I love to tell the story, because I know it’s true,” Katherine Hankey’s hymn goes. We explore storytelling as a way of telling truths, binding communities, and recording struggles. Our guides will be Rev. Ned Allyn Parker, and storyteller Andre Keitt. Ned works at Andover Newton Seminary at Yale Divinity School and has written about the life-giving, life-saving power of shared stories. Andre will weave the stories of  his African American family’s strong bonds, telling of their struggles during the racial challenges of the past, and the victories that make bright futures possible. He invites attendees to bring inspirational family pictures and their own families’ stories of striving and thriving. We look forward to seeing where the stories take us.

 

Kids from birth to entering 8th grade enjoy games, crafts, learning, and exploration of Star Island with their friends in teacher-led groups for 3 hours every morning. Fun activities for all ages are scheduled throughout the afternoon and evening — examples include slip-n-slide on lawn, field games, kickball, tie-dye, softball, swimming, crafts, board games, trivia, and bonfire marshmallow roasts!
