On January 20, 2023, Andover Newton Seminary and Yale Divinity School will sign official documents finalizing the permanent affiliation toward which they have been making phased, gradual progress since 2016. Please join the Deans of Yale Divinity School and Andover Newton Seminary at Yale Divinity School, Andover Newton Trustees, members of the YDS Dean’s Advisory Council to mark this momentous occasion. All are invited to celebrate how good it is when historic institutions, striving toward the same worthy missions, join together to create something new.
The special activities will begin on Thursday, January 19, 2023, with a special Emmaus dinner and worship service [beginning in the 2nd Floor Common Room, transitioning to Marquand Chapel] from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm.
Andover Newton at YDS’s community has worshiped God together every term-time Thursday night since the school began its relocation to New Haven in the fall of 2016. “Emmaus” progresses from dinner and Bible study into worship including testimony, music, and communion. The night before the signing ceremony for the permanent affiliation agreement between Andover Newton and Yale, Emmaus will be dedicated to reflection on the meaning of joining together. The service will include an opportunity for current students to learn about the process leading to this historically significant event.
