The Emmaus Gathering on Thursday, April 3, 2025, in Marquand Chapel was a special night of music for YDS and the surrounding community. In collaboration with Andover Newton Seminary, the Yale Black Seminarians Gospel Choir presented a Scripture & Song Lenten Concert.
This evening of joy-filled worship was made possible with co-producers: Andover Newton Seminary, Marquand Chapel, Berkeley Divinity School, the Institute of Sacred Music, Saint Thomas More, the Office of Community Engagement, and the Yale Black Seminarians.
Founding Dean Sarah Drummond shared that “song transcends words and ideas. Singing is good for the heart and soul. Communal singing bonds people together, whether a person is in the choir or, like me, loudly singing along. The special musical Emmaus worship service, conducted by student Reggie Payne and carried out under the guiding hand of the Rev. JaQuan Beachem, brought us at Andover Newton closer together, closer to our partners, and closer to God.”
