Prof. Benjamín Valentín called to Boston College School of Theology

May 6, 2020
Benjamín Valentín, who joined Andover Newton’s faculty in 2000, will depart to become part of the faculty of the Boston College School of Theology this summer.

Professor Valentín taught courses in Latinx Theology, Constructive Theology, and Systematic Theology. He also offered courses on religion and film and directed Andover Newton’s historic Costas Program, later the Orlando and Rose Costas Lecture. He was among five faculty members from Andover Newton who transitioned to Yale Divinity School when Andover Newton became embedded there. His most recent books include Theological Cartographies: Mapping the Encounter with God, Humanity, and Christ, a monograph published by Westminster John Knox Press in 2015; and Looking Forward With Hope: Reflections on the Present State and Future of Theological Education, an edited volume published by Cascade Books in 2019.

Prof. Valentín will serve the BC School of Theology as Professor of Theology and Latinx Studies. Although he proudly hails from New York City, Prof. Valentín and his spouse Karina live in the greater Boston area, where Karina’s work and family are located. Prof. Valentín plays bass in the worship band for his church in Boston, Lion of Judah. Dean Sarah Drummond says, “Although we will miss Ben as a colleague and friend, we are happy for him and his family. The BC School of Theology, outstanding institution that it is, will be all the richer for having Ben as a new member of its faculty and community.”
