#TrusteeTuesday: Weekly reflections on the future of leadership

September 14, 2020
On Tuesday September 15th, Andover Newton Seminary will begin sharing weekly reflections written by members of the institution’s board of trustees. These reflections will focus on the future of leadership in light of Andover Newton’s historic mission:

Deeply rooted in Christian faith and radically open to what God is doing now, Andover Newton Seminary at Yale Divinity School educates inspiring leaders for faith communities.

As guardians of this mission, board members share wisdom they have acquired from their own personal context, whether that be parish ministry or another professional setting. As they consider the phrase, “radically open to what God is doing now,” they offer insight about where and how they see Andover Newton’s mission informing, shaping, and healing spiritual leadership as we all move through today’s perfect storm of pandemic, anti-black racism, and economic distress. What experience and/or wise counsel might be offered to those currently leading or those who will soon be leading faith communities navigating this storm? When communities are rooted in hope, what will leadership look like when we come out of the other side of these events?

These #TrusteeTuesday reflections come from a rich diversity of sources – clergy, deans, communications professionals, philanthropists, and professors. Each reflection is grounded in the individual trustee’s own discipline and offered in a discerning and thoughtful way. Together, these reflections also help us think about “Embracing Transformation,” Andover Newton’s theme for the 20-21 Academic Year.

Trustees care about Andover Newton and they care about the church. They are inspired and inspiring leaders. In times like these, we all need direction that comes from careful and care-filled discernment. We draw on their generous wisdom, and we are grateful for it.
