Alumni/ae Library Borrowing Privileges

Alumni/ae Borrowing Privileges

A good theological library is essential to the thinking, writing, preaching, and leading ministry professional. Andover Newton’s Boston-area alumni/ae have expressed concern about losing borrowing privileges at Trask Library once the school has vacated the Newton campus.

Former Franklin Trask Library Director, Nancy Lois, worked with other Boston Theological Institute library directors to secure continuing borrowing privileges for Andover Newton alumni/ae. On May 21, 2018, Andover Newton Theological School alumni/ae residing or working in the greater Boston area were granted ongoing borrowing privileges at no cost to them at:

  • Andover-Harvard Theological Library at Harvard Divinity School
  • School of Theology Library at Boston University
  • Goddard Library at Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary in South Hamilton
  • Bruce Jackson Memorial Library at Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary in Roxbury
Local area clergy will also continue to enjoy borrowing privileges at the Theology and Ministry Library at Boston College. We are grateful to the BTI libraries named for extending borrowing privileges to Andover Newton Theological School alumni/ae.

Alumni/ae without easy access to the greater Boston or southern Connecticut areas are encouraged to borrow theology and religion books through the interlibrary loan service at their local public libraries. Many theological libraries across the country participate in interlibrary loan and loan for free to public libraries.

Andover Newton Alumni/ae Privileges at Yale Divinity Library

Alumni/ae of Andover Newton Theological School are eligible to request free online access to the ATLAS® PLUS for ALUM database through the Yale Divinity Library.  This new ATLA product provides access to full text articles in more than 450 journals in theology and religion. Access to the collection is available through a password-protected site: ATLASerials. To obtain the password, please send an email to divinity.library@yale.edu and include your name and year of graduation. When the request is received, an account name and password will be sent back via e-mail.

ANTS alumni/ae who wish to use the Yale Divinity Library are welcome to visit and use materials located on site.  Borrowing privileges, however, are administered centrally at Sterling Memorial Library.  For more information see https://guides.library.yale.edu/borrow.  For purposes of borrowing, ANTS alumni are not considered Yale alumni, but may obtain privileges as “Visitors or Non-Yale Researchers.”
